A device for measuring the volume of an
audio signal. It is usually displayed graphically with a meter that shows a vertical bar moving up and down in relation to the
audio signal. The VU meter is a useful tool for ensuring that the
audio signals remain within an acceptable range of
loudness while maintaining the desired
level of dynamic range.
